Made in Hong Kong

“As South Africa entered its Prague Spring in the mid 1990s my work became more playful. I had become a father and started to coopt my son’s toys using crocodiles, trucks zoo animals and so on as the basis, adding photo montage and pigments. Here I returned to wood-carving, a medium I used so much as a young sculptor. Made in Hong Kong refers to the stamp on many of the toys I copied.”
